Chup Chup Ke is a 2004 Indian Hindi musical romance film. The film marked the debut of actor Salman Khan, who played the role of Happy, an orphan who falls in love with Shani, played by actress Urmila Matondkar. The title song "Chup Chup Ke" topped the charts and was listed at number one on BBC's World's Worst Pop Songs Ever countdown.[1] The song has also been part of many television advertisement campaigns in India. The movie is considered to be one of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most commercially successful films. The storyline of the movie is loosely based on the 1973 French film, "The Thief of Paris" ("Le Voleur") by Jean-Pierre Melville. Happy (Salman Khan) is a dacoit who robs from the rich and gives to the poor. He dotes on his unknown mother and sister. His best friend Chulbul (Ajay Devgan) works as a police inspector who has been searching for him for a long time, but never succeeded in arresting him. Happy normally hides out in a slum colony where he meets Shani (Urmila Matondkar), a street-smart dancer from the slum whose mother works as a maid for Happy's family's household. Happy loves Shani, but Shani loves Chulbul. However, both will have to overcome their love for each other if they are to get married. Singer-rapper duo Shankar Mahadevan along with Sonu Nigam perform the title song "Chup Chup Ke". They also sing the songs "Kuch To Mere Paas", "Jabse Ki Chahe", and "Chor Bazaaye" (sung in chorus). The soundtrack was composed by Sajid-Wajid with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. The track "Chup Chup Ke" was ranked as the sixth best song of all time by a film magazine, "India Today", whereas a music critic from a British newspaper, "The Guardian", rated it at number one. The original song score was composed by Sajid-Wajid with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.

After the release of this movie, Salman Khan wanted to do Shahrukh Khan's role in the 2002 film Dil Se. However, Salman Khan met Shahrukh and offered him to play tennis during his college days. Salman later said that Shahrukh declined his offer saying that he knew how to play tennis since childhood and that he didn't feel like being used as a celebrity. After their marriage, Urmila Matondkar gave birth to their son Aryan. Soon after, they broke up due to their differences in perception about the child rearing. The movie became a box office hit and it grossed worldwide during its time period. The movie was also later remade in Tamil as "Kiruthiga Vendum" (2006) with actor Vikram Prabhu, where he got married to his co-star and the daughter of actress Nagma (Emmanuelle Chriqui). Their remake received high critical acclaim and was a blockbuster at the box office.
